Community Foundation Event
Benefits Women's Initiative Fund

MIDDLEBURY - Connecticut Community Foundation is planning an evening of Fashion, Friends, Food, and Fun to benefit the Women's Initiative Fund from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 3, at Viso Bello Day Spa, 900 Straits Turnpike.

This free event will be an informal opportunity to learn about the fund, which pools donations from area women to build an endowment that awards grants to programs for women and children in the region.

Kathy Berman, Connecticut Community Foundation trustee, will talk about the fund. Hors d'oeuvres are provided by Leo's Restaurant. Part of the proceeds from goods and services sold during the event will benefit the fund.

The evening will include a fall fashion show and sale with Andrea Ward of Essentials by Andi Kamel. Ms. Ward, a fashion stylist based in Oxford who had a shop in New Haven, now sells exclusively at private shows.

Her selections will include sportswear and suiting from several designers, paired with make-up by Viso Bello.

Twenty percent of the proceeds from all clothing sales will benefit the fund. Viso Bello will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from spa services reserved and purchased during the event.

Dr. Thomas Alosco, a board certified general surgeon, will talk about a new non-surgical laser procedure for the treatment of varicose veins, spider veins and leg pain.

The Women's Initiative Fund is a permanent fund of Connecticut Community Foundation, with assets of more than $300,000. Since its inception in 1993, the fund awarded more than $44,000 in grants to area nonprofits.

Recent grants focused on the economic well-being of women and included a program to improve job and parenting skills for women entering the workforce, a project providing work-appropriate clothing to low-income women seeking jobs, and job training in the childcare and health fields.

Reservations are required to attend.
